SCROLL DOWN

Glimps

GLIMPS engages a strategic transition towards an open bio-based economy. We operate a novel approach across biology, design and architecture. Our activities span from biomaterials to bio-inspired design and biofabrication.

Our mission is to accelerate our transition to sustainable material use.

We offer product design services, we create experiential installations for exhibitions and develop professional trainings in biofabrication.

Biofabrication

Biofabrication

The field of biofabrication investigates the requirements for products and materials made out of living organisms. Recent advancements in bio-engineering have opened new possibilities in our understanding of organisms down to the level of the genetics. Could these latest developments re-engineer the characteristics of organisms in order to realise desired properties in materials? Could the logic of life be mapped and engaged in design processes?

Cooperative

Cooperative

GLIMPS cvba commits to collaborations in sustainability. The problem of toxic products and materials is universal, so everyone should be part of the solution. We have deliberately opened up GLIMPS so that you can be part of it.

GLIMPS cvba is a cooperative in which you can become a cooperant if you make an investment. All cooperants have a vote in how GLIMPS does things, advised by the team of seasoned experts, so you can rest assured that your investment is in good hands. You’ll benefit if there is a profit.

Keep in touch if you are interested in becoming a cooperant once the time has come.

Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding

A while back, we got a breathtaking email. Two people, Tim and Djinn, planned a cycling trip. Not just a trip, one that will take them all the way from Amsterdam to Sri Lanka! And they wanted to use the trip to raise money for a cause they believe in: a plastic free world. We were humbled to read they thought our work was worth supporting.

Several weeks of talking, planning and meeting Tim and Djinn (wonderful people!) later, they are about to leave! You can follow the epic trip on their website, Saddle Down Cycling.

Together with them, we are crowdfunding for a new piece of equipment in our community lab. An autoclave is an advanced pressure cooker, indispensable for research in biofabrication. It will be shared with community organisations, designers and artists in the open lab we inhabit (ReaGent in Gent)!

The glory days of our current autoclave are in the past. It is now blocking progress in our research and education activities. You can help us by donating an amount of your choice! :-)
